The Anantara Kalutara Resort was, in a few words, the perfect choice for us to spend a romantic ten-day holiday in Sri Lanka. Despite being a little pricier, we felt that the value for money was definitely there. From receiving a welcome drink at reception, enjoying the high quality pool facilities to the food, we felt very well taken care of (at times a bit too much with staff constantly asking if we were fine, but OK, it was fine).

Overall score: (5/5)

The hotel itself sits in a large and very lush garden which stretches throughout the facility and is in its own right worth exploring. One disadvantage is that there is a small public road heading down to the beach that cuts through the hotel property. Since anyone can access it (but not the hotel property itself which is guarded) it means that you have to, at times, push you way though eager Tuk Tuk drivers who want to know if they can offer you a ride.

The 140-room hotel is located on the corner of a small inlet that feeds water into a small bay at the back end of the hotel while the other side offers a nice (but public) beach with some beach chairs.  Overall staff were super friendly and helpful and that was appreciated. There is a nice bar (with a bit too many mosquitos outside in the evening) to enjoy drinks at and their buffet restaurant is excellent, with a wide selection of foods from Sri Lanka and around the world available for all meals. The hotel also has an Asian restaurant (which is excellent!) and a pasta restaurant.

We also made use of the Spa facilities for a massage and I can say that it was top-notch! We enjoyed every moment of it and left feeling calm and refreshed. It’s a must do.

The rooms were also very much up to standard. They are large and face out to the sea or lagoon, providing you with amazing views throughout the day. There is a large ensuite-bathroom with bath and shower as well as a pretty big terrace to enjoy the views from. Overall the bed was super comfy and all the expected facilities were available in the room.

We spent most of our time at the elongated pool (there are two pools at the hotel) which was a good choice as it allowed us access to the pool bar throughout the day (the mango juice comes fresh and highly recommended!). The pool area also gives you a choice between a table and chairs, sunbeds next to the pool or sunbeds on the grassy area nearby.

The hotel also offers a number of activities and entertainment in the evening, including traditional dance sessions and a drinks evening at the pool which were great!

Overall, a luxurious experience we thoroughly enjoyed!
